Zendaya has booked a role opposite Zac Efron and Hugh Jackman in Fox’s “The Greatest Showman on Earth” musical, playing Efron’s girlfriend in the movie.
The film tells the story of P.T. Barnum, founder of what became the famous traveling Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus.
Michael Gracey is directing the musical film from a script penned by Michael Arndt (a script that’s been through several rewrites by a number of past writers, which is often not a very good sign).
Laurence Mark, Jackman and Chernin Entertainment are producing the film, while Tony Award nominees Justin Paul and Benj Pasek are writing original songs for it.
This is the second high-profile gig announced in recent months for former Disney star Zendaya; she’s also booked for a role in “Spider-man: Homecoming.”
She is repped by CAA.
Deadline was first to report the news of her joining “The Greatest Showman on Earth.”
