Universal Pictures has set up an untitled female-driven comedy with Will Packer producing and Malcolm D. Lee directing.
“Black-ish” creator Kenya Barris and Tracy Oliver will write the screenplay for what’s currently dubbed the Untitled Girl’s Trip Project. The logline is under wraps.
Packer’s producing credits include “No Good Deed,” “Ride Along,” “Think Like a Man” and its sequel, “Takers” and the upcoming “Ride Along 2.” He is exec producing “Straight Outta Compton” for Universal.
Packer has expanded into TV and is set to exec produce the remake of “Roots,” which airs next year; “People Are Talking,” which will be on NBC in October; and “Uncle Buck” on ABC in January.
Lee recently directed Universal dramedy “The Best Man Holiday,” which has grossed over $71 million, and is in production on “Barbershop 3,” which Barris and Oliver wrote.
Barris is adapting the 1970s TV show “Good Times” for the bigscreen.
Barris is represented by CAA and Principato-Young Entertainment. Oliver is represented by ICM and Principato-Young; Packer is represented by UTA and Matt Johnson of Ziffren Brittenham. Lee is represented by Paradigm.
