Looks like comedian, singer and actor Jamie Foxx is in a lot of news today as news was released a little while ago that he is about to land in a new film playing the President of the United States in White House Down with Channing Tatum. According to several reports, Foxx is about to possibly take a closer look into the role and may jump in soon.

Jamie Foxx may be moving into the White House, as director Roland Emmerich is eyeing the “Django Unchained” star to play the president of the United States alongside Channing Tatum in Sony’s action drama “White House Down.”
Studio had no comment on the potential casting. Sources tell Variety that Foxx is intrigued by the presidential role, and his reps have engaged the filmmaker. Official negotiations haven’t begun as Foxx has yet to receive an actual offer, but both sides will continue to pursue the deal.
Oscar-winning thesp is currently shooting Quentin Tarantino’s “Django Unchained,” and he’ll surely have a lot of heat coming off of that project. Emmerich has directed several hit tentpoles for Sony, so expect the studio to go the extra mile to deliver the helmer his choice for the country’s commander-in-chief.
Tatum will star as a Secret Service agent who leaps into action to defend the president when a paramilitary group takes over the White House and holds everyone inside hostage.
“White House Down” is in direct competition with Millennium Films’ “White House Taken,” which is currently skedded to start production before the Sony movie. Gerard Butler is attached to star, and Antoine Fuqua will direct.
Sony’s bigger-budget pic, however, has more heat at agencies thanks to James Vanderbilt’s spec script, which the studio acquired back in March for $3 million — one of the biggest spec deals of the year. Project has been on the fast track ever since, and production is now expected to start in August.
Vanderbilt and partners Bradley Fischer and Laeta Kalogridis will produce for Mythology Entertainment, while Emmerich and Harald Kloser will also produce. Reid Carolin, Tatum’s producing partner at their Iron Horse Entertainment banner, will serve as an exec producer.
Foxx, who was last seen in Seth Gordon’s WB comedy “Horrible Bosses,” hasn’t starred in a Sony film since Rob Cohen’s 2005 actioner “Stealth.” He’s repped by CAA, manager Rick Yorn and attorney Nina Shaw.
