Whoopi Goldberg has joined the cast of the indie romcom Big Stone Gap, which stars Ashley Judd and Patrick Wilson.
Based on the series of novels by Adriana Trigiani, who will also adapt the script and direct the film as well (her directorial debut), Big Stone Gap follows a middle-aged woman in search of love and herself in an eccentric small Virginia coal town, called Big Stone Gap, as in the title of the film.
Judd will star as the woman.
No word on what Whoopi’s role will be in the film.
Altar Identity Studios has come onboard to produce the project which begins shooting begins October 19 in Big Stone Gap.
There could be a franchise here for the film’s cast, as Trigiani’s novel was followed by 3 sequels.
Up next for Whoopi – a Lifetime film based on Terry McMillan’s A Day Late and a Dollar Short.
