A couple of weeks ago at The American Black Film Festival’s 4th annual Comedy Wings Competition, sponsored by HBO, in Miami, comedian Daphnique Springs was announced as the winner.

If you recall, Springs was one of the five finalists which included comedians Del Harrison, Tyree Elaine, Kareem Chapman, and Anton Shuford, as they all competed for the crown at the event which was hosted by Cedric The Entertainer.

If you are not familiar, The Comedy Wings Competition is a national search for the new stars of comedy. The goal of the competition is to provide a platform for talented yet undiscovered comedians to break into film and television. Nine semifinalists were selected from around the country to participate in the live audition in LA, and the four comics mentioned above were hand picked by the judges to proceed to the finals event at the 2016 ABFF in Miami.

Anyway, we caught up with Springs to ask her about the competition and how her life has changed since she was crowned the winner.
