truTV has also ordered a pilot from creator and host Amanda Seales (“Insecure”) which is described as a comedic social commentary game show titled “Smart, Funny and Black.”

Based on her monthly live comedy show of the same name, Seales challenges professional funny folks (comics, writers, producers) to compete in various games that test their knowledge, taste, and understanding of current and historical black popular culture. Each episode, Amanda crowns one winner and their portrait is added to the wall of the “Illustrious League of Master Blacksperts.”

“Smart, Funny and Black” is produced by Main Event Media and All3Media America, with Seales, Jimmy Fox and Greg Lipstone executive-producing.

Seales also currently brings her comedy voice to truTV as the host of the pop-culture comedy countdown show “Greatest Ever,” airing Fridays on truTV.

The multihyphenate –  visual artist, DJ, host, culture critic, rapper/singer songwriter, actress, radio host – can be seen on HBO’s Issa Rae comedy series “Insecure” playing Tiffany DuBois.

By the way, truTV also previously greenlit a project from another “Insecure” talent – Prentice Penny, the series showrunner. Titled “Upscale with Prentice Penny,” the all-new lifestyle series, created by Penny with DEFY Media’s Chris Pollack and Jared Hoffman, received a 12-episode first season order and is set to premiere on truTV in spring 2017. In each half-hour episode, Penny will embark on a journey to demystify what it takes to live an upscale life, exploring a variety of topics ranging from food and wine to travel and fashion.

For Penny, the series marks a new chapter in his career by moving him in front of the camera as the show’s host. A seasoned television writer, Penny’s past credits include FOX’ “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” UPN’s “Girlfriends,” and ABC’s “Happy Endings.” He also created and executive produced the Fuse Network series, “The Hustle.”

truTV is a basic cable and satellite network owned by Time Warner. It was founded as Court TV, a network that focused on crime-themed programs, and was relaunched and rebranded as TruTV, with a revamped lineup with a focus on comedy programming and comedy-based reality series. As of February 2015, approximately 89.7 million American households (77% of households with television) receive truTV; so most of you should have access to it.
