The Top TEN COMICS TO WATCH LIST for 2013! Check out our FIRST FIVE!

Posted Dec 19, 2012

QuestionThe following list of comedians in our Top TEN COMICS TO WATCH LIST for 2013 all have something in common; they all have major projects that are going to drop in 2013, whether it be in television or film, or for some both. These comedians have all been around for years, and for some it’s about time that they have arrived. For others, some people may shake their head in disbelief, but there is no denying their upcoming projects that are all coming. Again, this is NOT a list of being the funniest, but it’s a list of the heat that will come from these said projects.

Cocoa BrownCocoa Brown– This female comedian has been around for years, and after several small roles in The Soul Man and other television shows, she established herself this past year in Tyler Perry’s camp with a comedic performance in Los Angeles at The Laugh Factory when Perry saw her stand up. Brown then starred in For Better Or Worse, and that lead to a starring role in the new upcoming Tyler Perry film titled Single Moms Club, also starring Perry and Nia Long. With this role and a role in upcoming sitcom titled The First Family from Byron Allen’s Entertainment Studios, who can deny her place on this list?

tony-rockTony Rock– Starting a career in comedy can be extremely difficult, but when your brother is Chris Rock the weight of having to follow in those footsteps can be heavier than a ton of bricks. But somehow, comedian Tony Rock has found a way to make it in comedy by not only doing it his own way, he has carved out a niche just for himself. After breaking out in Hollywood on the sitcom All Of Us that starred Duane Martin, Rock has had several other projects such as The Tony Rock Project and a couple of films such as Three Can Play That Game and most recently Think Like A Man that starred Kevin Hart. But things are really looking up for Rock as he recently became the Host of the new show for BET and Centric titled Apollo Live, which is being produced by Jamie Foxx and his camp. Foxx handpicked Rock himself, and with a couple of other projects on tap such as The Cheaters Club and several other possible films being tossed around, 2013 looks like Rock will really Rock Da World.

Lil RelLil Rel Howery– One of the only comedians from Chicago who is really going to make some noise in 2013 has to be comedian Lil Rel Howery. After having been around in Hollywood for years, and after having done all of the comedy stand up series from Russell Simmons Presents: Stand Up At The El Ray to P Diddy Presents The Bad Boys Of Comedy, it was only a matter of time before Hollywood took notice; and with being cast as the newest comedic member of the revamp of the new FOX series In Living Color, it looks like they did. But when ILC never aired, it looked like Howery would have to wait just a little while longer before the world knew about him. Now it looks like all of that is about to happen for 2013. With a brand new sketch comedy series to rival any sketch comedy series (except maybe In Living Color) coming next fall and a whole new cast of comedic characters, Howery looks like he’s setting the stage. Why do we say that? Well, we hear one of the things that is happening is Howery is in the final stages of writing the series and a whole lot more (that’s all we can say for now). We also hear that his is finalizing a new stand up special for 2013 (not sure of its going to be a 30 minute or a 60 minute special) for television but its definitely coming. All of that plus a film or two happening will make Howery one of the breakout comics of the year.

CaponeCapone– One comedian who has been around the game for many years and who has quietly been gaining a legion of fans since his very first appearance on Russell Simmons Presents Def Comedy Jam has to be the comedian known as Capone. The former barber and now comedian, who used to be known as the gangster of comedy, toured for several years with the then tour titled The Top Dawgs Of Comedy.  He then made several guestappearances in films like Tons Of Love and Death Of A Dynasty and he finally branched out on his own. After performing in sold out shows in New York and landing several gigs on radio in the big radio market, Capone finally started to get national attention after having arrived on the Shaq Comedy All Star Jam tour in the pivotal closer role. The tour, which hit over 20 cities, opened up more doors for him as we hear that next year seems to be THE year as Capone is in final negotiations with a major mogul to do some type of show, and possibly land several television shows along the way. After this and the Shaq tour, Capone is well on his way to being a household name.

Loni LoveLoni Love–  Another comedian who has been traveling under the radar for many years and who has been quietly making Hollywood take notice has to be Loni Love.  After receiving her Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Prairie View A&M University in Texas, Love wanted to try her hand in comedy and, boy, has she done just that! Love, after plowing away in comedy for years and landing several guest minor roles in television shows along the way,  turned an appearance on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno and several guest spots on VH1, into something special, as she landed as a regular on Chelsea Lately. Before you know it, she dropped a new comedy special titled America’s Sister and she also was landed on a new syndicated radio show titled Café Mocha Radio with MC Lyte and radio vet Angelique. The show is approaching 20 markets and is gaining more listeners daily. This upcoming year, Love has a new film titled Gunshot Straight in a starring role, and looks to continue her role in the Disney Channel hit Kickin’ It.
