Tonight in Los Angeles the highly anticipated show Eddie Murphy: One Night Only finally got underway and we were very excited to see this production. As you can well imagine, some of some of Hollywood’s biggest names turned out to toast their friend Murphy, and as as expected many of them told some very hilarious stories of what life is like being a friend of Murphy’s, and what life is like watching him as a comedy megastar.
The celebrity lineup featured many of Murphy’s peers and co-stars including: Chris Rock, Samuel L. Jackson, Tracy Morgan, Arsenio Hall, Brett Ratner, Charlie Murphy, Jeffrey Katzenberg, and Martin Lawrence. Each person graced the stage as we were able to get an inside glimpse into Murphy’s world. Some folks, such as Tracy Morgan bought us back to the beginning of Murphy’s career, while Wayans explained what life was like just being a friend of Murphy’s over a span of 30 years.
But the highlight of the night would have to be when Stevie Wonder got on stage and started to sing several songs. Wonder eventually got Murphy to get up on stage and shades of their Saturday Night Live sketch came quickly to mind (the sketch originally had Murphy impersonating Wonder while they both sat together and sang in a classic SNL sketch) as they bought the house down with huge laughter and applause.
Without giving too much away, the show is sure to go down in a chapter of Murphy’s career as Hollywood came out in force to recognize one of the greatest of all time in comedy.
The Spike TV event was produced in conjunction with Don Mischer Productions, and Murphy’s brother and Executive Producer Vernon Lynch. Eddie Murphy: One Night Only premieres Wednesday, November 14th on Spike TV.
In the next couple of days we will have some EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEWS with many of the celebrities who graced the red carpet of this event! Stay Tuned!
