Several days ago, we got the new press release on the longest running comedy competition and festival, The Bay Area Black Comedy Competition & Festival, which is entering their 26th year. As you can imagine after being in the business for so long, everyone has crossed their stage at one point in time from Chris Tucker, to Katt Williams to DL Hughley just to name a few. Well, we hear that they have done some changes and that they are about to change their format. Check out the press release below;
WHAT:
The 26th Anniversary Bay Area Black Comedy Competition & Festival, the word’s longest-running showcase of urban comedians is returning to Oakland, one of the cities where it all began. The premiere urban comedy contest and educational festival brings its brand of stand-up to one of the world’s premiere jazz venues, Yoshi’s Oakland. The BABCCF, which in previous years has been broken up into two parts over a three-month period, will all take place in one fun-filled weekend in May.
WHO:
Hosted by Actor/Comedian Don “DC” Curry, the three-day/three-night comedy convention features over 60 talented and diverse comedians from Northern California and all across the country. The Award-winning Comedian Educational Forum offers career-building daytime panels, classes and workshops. The centerpiece of the annual laughter fest takes place each night and touts six high-energy shows of high-stakes competition for more than $15,000.00 in cash, prizes and international bookings.

The Bay Area Black Comedy Competition (BABCCF) was initially created in 1986 by theatre artist, poet and aspiring comedian Tony Spires, as a means of leveling the playing field for African American and other minority Bay Area stand-up comedians. From its humble roots, it has evolved into the largest, longest-running, live showcase of urban comedians in the world. The BABCCF has also become a major networking convention and a national proving ground for talented up and coming stand-ups of all races and ethnic backgrounds.
Since 2002 the BABCCF has produced one of the country’s leading entertainment industry educational festivals, with daytime symposiums, industry panels, workshops and one-on-one professional consultations, all specifically designed to cultivate and develop the next generation of stand-up comedians.
The BABCCF has helped launch the careers of some of the biggest names in urban comedy, music, film and TV. Our outstanding alumni include: Academy Award Winner Jamie Foxx, Chris Tucker, Don “DC” Curry, Mike Epps, D.L.
