The television personality has set up a new show with IMG set to debut next September, as his contract with Endemol Shine North America is up in 2017. He’ll relocate from Chicago — the longtime home of The Steve Harvey Show — to Los Angeles for the new talker, which will continue to be distributed by NBCUniversal Domestic Television.
The transition comes after five seasons of The Steve Harvey Show. In addition to more creative control, the new deal will give Harvey a substantial ownership stake in the show. NBCUniversal is currently shopping the talker around for its fall 2017 launch and hopes that the new show will be scooped up by most of the same stations that carry Steve Harvey.
Since Harvey’s talk show first premiered in 2012 — one of the few successful daytime launches in recent years — he has solidified himself as a daytime star. He’s also struck a chord as the host of NBC’s Little Big Shots and ABC’s Celebrity Family Feud.
The deal is another example of WME/IMG’s expansion into content production and distribution since they’ve broadened their operations. Harvey is repped by WME.
