Starz Renews Survivor's Remorse For A 2nd Season!

Posted Oct 10, 2014

Starz has no regrets about Survivor’s Remorse. The cable network, fond of quick pickups, has handed out a second-season renewal for the freshman comedy just five days after its premiere.

Survivor’s Remorse will get an expanded run in 2015, with the half-hour’s episode count being upped from six to ten episodes. The series opened to a relatively modest live-plus-same day showing on Oct. 4, but Starz cites a total of 1.3 million multiplatform viewers over the course of its first week.

“We’re thrilled with the overwhelming critical acclaim Survivor’s Remorse has received and we look forward to continuing our partnership with such an all-star team,” said network CEO Chris Albrecht.

That all-star team includes creator Mike O’Malley, who joins basketball star LeBron James, Tom Werner, Maverick Carter, Paul Wachter andVictor Levin as executive producer.

Survivor’s Remorse stars Jessie T. Usher as Cam Calloway, a man who signs a NBA contact and moves his family to Atlanta. It joins recent Starz efforts Outlander and Power in securing a renewal this year. And, like Power, Survivor’s Remorse is another example of the network’s on-screen diversity push — and the corresponding courting of black viewers.

“The not-so-surprising secret about Power is that white people don’t watch a lot of shows that don’t have a lot of white faces in them,” Albrecht said in July. “That’s going to take some time.”
