No surprise here: Starz has ordered a third season of its surging drama Power.
The New York-set drama, from creator and showrunner Courtney Kemp Agboh, returned to record ratings this past weekend. With encores, the June 6 sophomore opener grossed 3.62 million viewers — a network record for the most watched (pre-DVR) episode of an original series to date.
“I am thrilled to learn that season three of Power has been officially ordered by Starz,” said Kemp Agboh. “It is an honor to work with Chris Albrecht, Carmi Zlotnik, Ken Segna and the whole Starz team. Their support has been steadfast from the beginning, and I look forward to a bright future together.”
Power, which is performing especially well with African-American audiences, will return in 2016 with 10 new episodes — though there are still nine more to go for its current second season.
Joining Kemp Agboh in returning as executive producer are Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Mark Canton, Randall Emmett and newly elevated Gary Lennon.
“Power is a project I have been passionate about since day one,” said Jackson. “I am glad the audience loves the show as much as we do, and we are just getting started.”
