A year after Shemar Moore said goodbye to CBS’ “Criminal Minds” series, the actor is heading back to the network to star in its reboot of the “S.W.A.T.” action/crime drama series about the adventures of a Special Weapons And Tactics (S.W.A.T.) team. A spin-off of “The Rookies,” the series aired on ABC from February 1975 to April 1976.
The CBS reboot will be scripted by Aaron Thomas, who will executive-produce with Shawn Ryan, Marney Hochman, Neal Moritz, Pavun Shetty and Danielle Woodrow, with Sony Pictures Television/CBS Studios co-production producing.
Moore will star in the reboot, playing S.W.A.T. team leader, Lt. Dan “Hondo” Harrelson, a man who is “torn between loyalty to the streets and duty to his fellow officers” when he is tasked to run a highly trained unit that is “the last stop for solving crimes in Los Angeles.”
A pilot has been ordered, which Justin Lin will direct.
In 2003, there was a film adaptation of the original TV series, starring Samuel L. Jackson, Colin Farrell, Michelle Rodriguez and LL Cool J. Directed by Clark Johnson, the $70 million movie grossed over $207 million worldwide.
