TruTV continues to ramp up its original scripted programming lineup with a new comedy series that will star former NBA star and current TNT analyst Shaquille O’Neal.
Titled “Shaq Inc.” (a working title, according to the press release), the project will be loosely based on Shaq’s real-life business empire – O’Neal and those around him.
No other specific details are available at this time.
Shaq will executive produce the comedy series, which hails from Mandalay Sports Media, the company launched in 2012 by Peter Guber and Mike Tollin.
“There is no denying Shaq’s multifaceted appeal, thus, we couldn’t be happier to be collaborating with him, as well as Mike Tollin and Mandalay Sports Media, as we continue to push into new formats,” said Chris Linn, president, head of programming for truTV.
Jeremy Garelick (“The Wedding Ringer“) will script the pilot, while John Fortenberry (“Galavant,” “Instant Mom”) will direct.
Assuming the pilot goes to series, I’d expect a 2015/2016 TV season premiere.
