ABC has put in development a workplace comedy from Fresh Off The Boat co-executive producer Sanjay Shah, Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment and ABC Studios.
Written and executive produced by Shah, the untitled project centers on an idealistic but street-stupid Berkeley grad who takes his first job teaching hardcore felons at a prison. Shah will be writing from experience — before embarking on a writing career, he once worked as an instructor at San Quentin State Prison.
Shah executive produces the ABC comedy with Kaplan and Dana Honor.
Shah, who started on King of the Hill, was a co-executive producer on the Fox/20th TV comedy series Enlisted before joining ABC/20th TV’s Fresh Off the Boat. He is repped by UTA and attorney Ken Richman.
At ABC, Kapital Entertainment also has Sam Sklaver’s comedy Charlie Foxtrot, which has a put pilot commitment; the DJ Nash comedy Losing It;Hilary Winston’s Next Summer, based on a Norwegian format; dramedy House of Moore; Courtney Lilly comedy Joe 2.0, produced by Tim Story; drama Protect & Serve, from Barbie Kligman and Billy Malone; and Laura Krafft comedy The Favorite. Additionally, the company has new ABC comedy series American Housewife and returning Secrets & Lies. All projects are with ABC Studios.
