We just discovered some news that comedian Rob Stapleton, probably best known for his hilarious midget ‘Sweet & Lo’ stripper comedy act, as well as his performances on HBO’s Bad Boys of Comedy, Mike Epps’ Live at The Nokia, Martin Lawrence’s 1st Amendment as well as his half hour Comedy Central Presents, is shooting his pilot titled The Rob & Ray Show!
Word is The Rob & Ray show will be a sketch comedy with some stand up comedy performances and will be similar to Dave Chappelle’s The Chappelle Show and HBO’s ‘Def Comedy Jam’ with an East coast flair. The show is a collection of Rob’s thoughts that he has transformed into clever, edgy ‘in-your- face’ comedy that, according to Rob, hasn’t been seen on television in years.
Stapleton serves as Executive Producer for the show as well as his partner, comedian Ray Dejon who is also a legendary comic performer and entertainer from Brooklyn.
According to Rob, he says “it has been a long time coming but what we’re simply doing is taking the baton from legendary shows like ‘In Livin’ Color’, ‘Def Comedy Jam’, ‘Martin’ and the ‘Chappelle Show’ and we’re sprinting with the damn thing!’ He also says “When you have great material, just stand out of the way and let the thing be”.
We hear that the show is a collection of pre-recorded sketches, live stand up, and musical guests, all broadcast in front of a live audience in Harlem, New York at the famed National Black Theatre. The actual taping is schedule to shoot Thursday Jan 31st and is setting up to feature some of the hottest stand ups working in comedy today. The comedians scheduled to perform are Mark Vierra, Turae Gordon, Jon Laster, Karlous Miller, Mike Yard and Hadiyah Robinson as well as Rob himself.
The producers of the show have also stated that there will be a musical performance but we haven’t heard who the act is- yet. Stay tuned here for more info on the show very soon.
