Universal has set the release date for the road-trip comedy “Girl Trip,” starring Regina Hall, for Aug. 11, 2017.

Will Packer, who has a first-look deal with the studio, is producing the project with Malcolm D. Lee directing. James Lopez, head of motion pictures for Will Packer Productions, will executive produce.

The story involves four lifelong friends traveling to New Orleans for the annual Essence Festival, where sisterhoods are rekindled, wild sides are rediscovered, and there’s plenty of dancing, drinking, brawling and romancing.

“Girl Trip” is the third title to land on Aug. 11, 2017, after Sony’s emoji movie and Warner Bros.’ action-comedy “Chips,” starring Adam Brody, Michael Pena and Dax Shepard.

Packer has produced the “Ride Along” and “Think Like a Man” franchises, along with the upcoming “Almost Christmas.” Lee’s credits include “The Best Man” franchise and “Barbershop: The Next Cut.”

Hall starred in both “Think Like a Man” films and as Angie in “The Next Cut.” She will appear with Morris Chestnut in Screen Gems’ “When the Bough Breaks” on Sept. 16.

Hall is represented by ICM and Principato-Young Entertainment. Lee is repped by Paradigm. Packer is repped by CAA and Ziffren Brittenham. News about Hall was first reported by Deadline Hollywood.
