Lifetime is looking to play matchmaker.
The female-skewing cable network has tapped Grammy-winner Jill Scott (Steel Magnolias), Eve(Single Ladies) and Regina Hall (Think Like a Man Too) to star in the original movie With This Ring, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The romantic comedy centers on three single best friends (Scott, Eve and Hall) who attend the lavish wedding of a fourth on New Year’s Eve, and desperation pushes them to make the vow to be married within the year. Each woman starts the year with hopes of what will happen over the next 12 months, but will they all make it to the altar?
The movie, produced by Sony Pictures Television, hails from executive producers Tracey Edmonds, Sheila Ducksworth (Soul Food) and Gabrielle Union (Being Mary Jane). With This Ring will be written and directed byNzingha Stewart (The Game) and will film in August in Cleveland for a debut later this year.
THR first reported the movie was in development in June. It comes at a busy time for Edmonds, who exec produces and appears in OWN’s Deion Sanders docuseries and is poised to join Extra as a co-host to replace Maria Menounos.
Scott is repped by CAA, the Chamber Group and Morris Yorn; Eve is with ICM Partners, Untitled Entertainment and Morris Yorn; and Hall is at ICM Partners, Principato Young and Stone Meyer.
