On This Day In Comedy… In 1968 Eddie Griffin Was Born!

Edward “Eddie” Griffin was born in Kansas City, Missouri.

After high school, he enrolled as a biological engineer at Kansas State University, but left after only three months.  He found comedy and moved west to Hollywood where he became a regular at the World Famous Comedy Store and attracted the attention of Andrew ‘Dice’ Clay, who hired Griffin as his opening act.  He gained wide spread popularity following his Def Comedy Jam appearance where he parodied Michael Jackson on crack.  Other successes followed as well as film and television roles.

Eddie Griffin has starred in Meteor Man, Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo, Undercover Brother, John Q, Norbit and many others.   From 1996-2000 he co-starred in the hit UPN sitcom, Malcolm & Eddie, along with Malcolm Jamal Warner.

Griffin was ranked #62 on Comedy Central’s list of the 100 Greatest Stand-ups of All Time.   As a headlining tourist attraction in lad Vega’s Rio Hotel and Casino.
