Chris Rock’s album, Bigger & Blacker was released on the DreamWorks label.
The album is a melding of studio-recorded comic sketches, featuring Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Biz Markie, Gerald Levert, Ali LeRoi, Wanda Sykes, Kaz Silver, Horatio Sanz, Ice Cube, Kali Londono, Don Newkirk, Kate Wright, and Nneka Kai Morton as well as live stand-up comedy tracks recorded for the HBO special that premiered on July 10th of that same year at the Apollo Theater in Harlem. That show was directed by Keith Truesdell with Slick Rick opening for Rock with ‘The Show’.
The live stand up highlighted Rock’s social commentary with bits harpooning gun control, President Clinton, homophobia, racism, black leaders, and relationships.
Bigger & Blacker won the 1999 Grammy Award for Best Spoken Comedy Album.
