Nicki Minaj has another reason to celebrate. The “Anaconda” singer has broken the record for the most Billboard Hot 100 hits by a female artist.
Minaj made history after passing Aretha Franklin for the most number of appearances in the Billboard Hot 100 chart among female artists. The “Bang Bang” rapper recently had three songs debut on the chart: “No Fraud” with Drake and Lil Wayne (no. 14), “Regret in Your Tears” (no. 61) and “Changed It” with Wayne (no. 71). This increased Minaj’s count to 76, surpassing Franklin’s 73, Billboard reported.
Franklin held the record for the most Hot 100 visits among women for almost 40 years, since June 18, 1977. Minaj broke it on March 11. The Hot 100 and other Billboard charts will be updated on Tuesday, March 21.
Minaj was credited as the lead artist in 32 of her Hot 100 entries and featured in 44. Meanwhile, Franklin boasted lead billing on all of her 73 Hot 100 hits.
Minaj first hit the Hot 100 chart on Feb. 20, 2010. Since then, she has achieved 13 top 10 songs, with “Anaconda” in the rising to no. 2 on the chart in 2014. The song is her highest-charting track to date.
On the other hand, Franklin had 17 top 10s. Her song “Respect” was at the top of the chart for two weeks. Franklin’s “I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me)” also made it to the top spot for two weeks.
Minaj announced the good news on her Instagram account, where she thanked her fans and recognized the new blessing on her career. “Man, I tell ya… God said he ain’t done showing off yet. Lol. Walked off stage to find out history was made yet again today,” she wrote. “Thank u so much for your unwavering love & support. God bless each & every one of you. To God be the glory.”
