“King of the Dancehall” is an upcoming new feature film directed and starring Nick Cannon, which is set to make its world premiere at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in September.
Cannon directs and stars in what TIFF describes as a high-energy musical about a young man from Brooklyn who gets caught up in the vibrant Kingston music scene during a visit to Jamaica.
Joining Cannon in front of the camera is an intriguing mix of actors and musicians that includes Whoopi Goldberg, Busta Rhymes, Peter Stormare, Kimberly Patterson, Louis Gossett Jr., Kreesha Turner, Kamani Marley, Collie Budz, Killer Bean, and Beenie Man.
No images (the above on-set pic comes from O-access JAMAICA), clips, or trailer for the film at this time. But you can watch a video interview with Cannon below, shot while he was still on set, filming. It’s from last August.
The Toronto International Film Festival runs from September 8 to 18, 2016.
