Essence Atkins plays the female lead opposite Marlon Wayans, in NBC’s new comedy, “Marlon,” which is inspired by the actor/comedian’s life.
The network has given a series order to the project which follows the escapades of an unfitting but loving father (Wayans) who is committed to successful co-parenting with his polar opposite ex-wife (Atkins). While his misguided fatherly advice, unstoppable larger-than-life personality and unpredictable Internet super-stardom might get in the way sometimes, for Marlon, family really always does come first — even if he’s the biggest kid of all.
Notlim Taylor, Amir O’Neil, Bresha Webb and Diallo Riddle round out the cast.
Wayans will also executive produce.
The comedy series is produced by Universal Television, 3 Arts and Wayans Brothers Entertainment.
Chris Moynihan penned the pilot script and executive produces alongside Rick Alvarez and Michael Rotenberg.
Wayans and Atkins previously worked together in the first “Haunted House” horror comedy a couple of years ago, which was a sleeper hit and spawned a sequel that was released last year.
