Terrence Howard, Mike Epps and Paula Patton will star in .38, a crime thriller that will be directed by Michael Carney.
Armory Films’ Tim Zajaros, who was involved in the making of Sundance sensation Mudbound, is producing with Ryan Smith and Anita Gou of Foxtail Entertainment. The thriller is expected to begin shooting May in Thomasville, Georgia.
Described as a sort of End of Watch-meets-Crash, .38 tracks a rookie cop on the mean streets of St. Louis as he spends his first night on the job and, after a brutal killing occurs, sees up close the bonds of loyalty, work and family that bind together the cops, both black and white.
Howard will play a detective whose daughter goes missing on the fateful night.
Epps is a seasoned cop who has a family connection to a neighborhood gang leader and who doesn’t think much of the rookie.
Patton, who is in negotiations for the movie, will play Epps’ partner, who has to console the daughter of a murdered man but then joins other cops as they track down the killer.
Carney, who has the Greg Kinnear-Renee Zellweger drama Same Kind of Different as Me in the can, wrote the script with Tim Clemente aand Alexander Foard.
Howard, who was one of the stars in 2004’s Oscar-winning Crash, is currently starring in Empire, the hit show from Lee Daniels and Danny Strong. He is repped by CAA and Loeb & Loeb.
Epps recently wrapped shooting Eli Roth’s Death Wish remake opposite Bruce Willis. He is repped by CAA, Primary Wave Ent, and Morris Yorn.
Patton’s recent credits include Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol with Tom Cruise, Legendary’s Warcraft and The Do-Over with Adam Sandler. Patton is repped by CAA, Primary Wave and Sloane Offer.
