Though they will be busy as directors on back-to-back sequels of The Avengers, Captain America: Civil War helmers Joe and Anthony Russo have joinedMichael B. Jordan as producers of The Thomas Crown Affair, the MGM remake of the 1968 Norman Jewison-directed remake that is being refashioned as a star vehicle for Jordan following his stellar turn in the MGM/Warner Bros film Creed.
Jordan will take on the role of a master thief that was first played by Steve McQueen, and then later by Pierce Brosnan. He’s a debonair, adventuresome bank robber who believes he has pulled off the perfect multimillion-dollar heist, until forced to match wits with a sexy insurance investigator who’ll do anything to get her man. He becomes smitten with her. Faye Dunaway played that role in the original, and Rene Russo played it opposite Brosnan.
I’m told that the Russos have come aboard with Mike Larocca from their Getaway Productions banner, and they will help Jordan and MGM shape the vehicle and find a director. The remake will have a contemporary political resonance, and they sparked to Jordan playing that role.
