Maya Rudolph Variety Pilot Ordered To Air As Prime Time Special On NBC!

Posted Nov 13, 2013

In what really seems like something that executive Lorne Michales did because of the heat of no African American women on Saturday Night Live comes news that SNL alumna Maya Rudolph is about to return to NBC with a new variety series project produced by Michaels for prime time.

Reports state that NBC ordered a pilot for a variety series with the plan to air the pilot as a special after the Winter Olympics. Rudolph is executive producing with Michaels, Erin David and Dave Becky.

As you may not know, this marks the latest collaboration between Rudolph and Michaels, who also produced Up All Night.

Rudolph, an African American and daughter of soul singer Minnie Riperton, was well known for her memorable impersonations and original characters that often included music performances, including her recurring gigs as Beyoncé Knowles, Tina Turner, Whitney Houston, Barbra Streisand, Oprah Winfrey, and Michelle Obama.
