Last week we had a chance to catch up to comedian Lavell Crawford, the native, pride and joy of St Louis, to discuss his new comedy special, his new weight loss and his thoughts on moving forward in Hollywood.
If you are not familiar, Crawford has been seen in films such as Compton’s Finest, Love Is Not Enough, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, American Ultra and The Ridiculous 6.
Anyway, Crawford is set to debut his new comedy special LAVELL CRAWFORD: NEW LOOK, SAME FUNNY!, on Saturday, July 6th on Showtime.
We asked Crawford about his thoughts on the new special, and he stated, “I am so happy to get a new special on Showtime because I am always asked when is my new special coming out and I don’t think my fans realize how damn expensive they are”, and of course he followed that with his infamous laugh.
Crawford knows how his life has changed since the explosion of the internet and especially social media because when we asked him how he felt that his Comedy Central Special has been chopped up and folks actually know his act from beginning to end, his response; “People always seem to come up to me and quote me my jokes, and I am like I know the jokes cause I wrote the damn things!”
His new special, which is filmed at the Charline McCombs Empire Theatre in San Antonio, has Crawford in a completely new look as he has dropped off so much weight that he had to address it in his new special. After all, the name New Look, Same Funny, addresses why he did such a drastic change. ” I had to lose weight for my health, and because I wanted to live, so I did. I also decided that I should talk about it because I am gonna be asked about it a lot so I tried to answer all of the questions in the new special” stated Crawford. After losing over 120 pounds, Crawford offers his unique take on everything from being a fan of first-term President Obama and the recent government shutdown to his weight-loss journey and the best way to deal with cops in 2019.
Crawford also told us he has several new projects on the horizon, including shooting a new project this summer with Adam Sandler. It seems that the comedian, actor, producer, has a lot more on the horizon than he lets on.
Lavell Crawford; New Look, Same Funny premieres this Saturday on Showtime.
