Emmy nominated actress, comedienne and former substitute teacher Kym Whitey will star alongside SWAT Commander Tom Stroup; interior designer Susie Castillo (“House of Payne“) and journalist Jacob Soboroff (AMC News), in “School Pride,” the new NBC fall series airing October 15th.
“School Pride” is an anticipated reality series from executive producer Cheryl Hines (“Curb Your Enthusiasm“) and Denise Cramsey (“Extreme Makeover: Home Edition“) that tells the stories of communities coming together to renovate their aging and broken public schools, while restoring their sense of value and school pride. The cameras follow students, teachers and parents as they roll up their sleeves and rebuild their own schools, concluding with the unveiling of a brand new, completely transformed school, starting with Enterprise Middle School in Compton, California.
No stranger to community service, Kym is a regular participant and supporter of non-profit organizations that include The Jennesse Center, The Tom Joyner Foundation, The Diva Foundation, the Curtis Mayfield Foundation and more. She also has spoken at major events including the Congressional Black Caucus. A well respected actress and comedian, Kym continues to push the envelope. To date, she has appeared in over 50 films and TV shows including “Grey’s Anatomy”, “College Road Trip”, “I Love You Man, “Til Death”, “The Cleveland Show” and “Black Dynamite.”
2011 will be yet another busy year for Kym. Next up, is a role in the major blockbuster “Transformers 3” and the animated “Rango 3” featuring Johnny Depp. She is co-executive producer of the upcoming film “Something Like a Business“, and has reoccurring roles in Tyler Perry’s “Meet The Browns” and FOX Television’s “The Cleveland Show” and will also co-star in Queen Latifah’s new BET series entitled “Let’s Stay Together.”
