The 2013 Sprint NBA All-Star Celebrity Game Most Valuable Player award has been given to actor/comedian Kevin Hart, who led the West to victory over the East, 58-38.
The honor was Hart’s second in a row as he was the game’s MVP last year. He finished with five points, three rebounds and one assist. There were other members of Hart’s team that had better numbers than him, so it came as a bit of a surprise he won the award.
Near the end of the game, Hart was congratulated with a Silly String attack that left him covered in the stuff. Hart’s performance will come under heavy scrutiny, however, as the comedian was found with a deer antler headband under his chair.
The West, led by Houston Rockets shooting guard James Harden, had no problem handling the East, who were coached by Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook.
Harden’s squad grabbed an early lead in the first quarter and would never relinquish it. Westbrook’s team was never really able to get anything going, and that remained the theme throughout.
One of the more interesting and controversial events in this game took place during a commercial break.
Hart took on Olympic gold medal track star Usain Bolt in a race from one side of the court to the other and then back again. Hart would win after getting a cheap early start, and Bolt helped him out by dunking his ball at the other end of the floor and hanging on to the rim.
You know things just weren’t right in this game when Clyde Drexler failed to throw one down on a fast break, while Sean Elliott airballed a three-point attempt. I guess these guys can’t stay young, athletic and talented forever.
