Kevin Hart Donates $250,000 To Philadelphia Schools!

Posted Nov 1, 2013

Philadelphia’s own Kevin Hart called in to Philly’s Morning Show with Shamara and Laiya to talk about his $250,000 donation to to the Philadelphia School District, which will provide 500 computers to the City of Philadelphia and the School District of Philadelphia, including 200 desktops to the Philadelphia Department of Parks and Recreation for use in recreation centers and 300 laptops to the District.

And according to Kevin Hart, this is just the beginning!

Kevin Hart put the city on his back when via instagram he announced that he would be donating $250,000 to the struggling Philadelphia School district. In the 15 second instagram  video Hart says,

“Philadelphia, aka the city of brotherly love, I just heard about all the trouble the school district is going through. So I took it upon myself to take $250,000 and put it in the school system to buy new computers. Not because somebody told me to, because I love you, and I put on for my city.”

At the end of the 2012-2013 school year, the Philadelphia School District closed 24 schools and laid off thousands of employees and over the summer, the city of Philadelphia agreed borrow $50 million just to be able to open schools on time. Even with that money, schools opened with a minimum of staffing and many program cuts.

Mayor Michael Nutter thanked Hart for his donation,

“I want to thank Kevin Hart for his incredibly generous gift to our schools, recreation centers and citizens of all ages. These computers will have a very meaningful impact on Philadelphia.”
