BET’s “Real Husbands of Hollywood” (abbreviated RHOH) is a parody series that was an early big hit for the cable TV network, drawing over 2 million viewers on average per episode during its first season, after a strong premiere episode that drew over 4 million viewers. Now in its 5th season, it’s since lost some of its luster, as its viewership has seen declines since its first season, now averaging about 1 million per episode. Although it appears to have something of a cult following of hardcore fans.
The scripted series, intentionally filmed in a style similar to Bravo’s reality TV franchise “The Real Housewives,” was co-created by the super busy Kevin Hart, and follows the daily lives of Hart and other married celebrities, each playing a fictionalized version of themselves, as they navigate their surreal Hollywood lives. Members of the initial cast included: Boris Kodjoe, Nelly, Duane Martin, J.B. Smoove, Nick Cannon, Oliver (Hart’s assistant, played by James Davis), and Robin Thicke, who didn’t return for the second season.
Announced today, and maybe hinting at what’s to come for the star of the series, Kevin Hart makes his directorial debut (TV or film) with tomorrow night’s episode of “Real Husbands of Hollywood.” Titled “Everyday I’m Hustlin’,” the episode airs at 9PM ET/PT on BET.
The episode is summarized as follows: With his commitment to physical fitness, Kevin gets a (VERY limited edition) sneaker named after him by a major athletic sportswear company. When Jackie [Long] gives away the precious pair he had promised his son for his birthday, Kevin has to scramble to find a replacement.
Can we expect to see more directing from Hart in the future, maybe more episodes of the series, leading to eventually directing for the big screen as well? Time will tell. At the moment, his acting slate is keeping him quite busy.
