Kendrick Lamar is scheduled to be Stephen Colbert’s first musical guest on the comedian’s forthcoming The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, according to The Wrap. The first episode is slated to air 11:35 p.m. EST September 8.
“I would love for him to be my first musical guest,” Colbert said Monday (August 10) at the Television Critics Association press tour. “In fact, he will be my first musical guest.”
The Top Dawg Entertainment rapper was Colbert’s final musical guest on The Colbert Report in December. He performed an untitled song with Thundercat and Terrace Martin. Many wondered if the song would appear on Lamar’s then-forthcoming To Pimp a Butterfly, which it did not. Martin said that the song will not be released.
Colbert interviewed Eminem on a Michigan public access station where he asked the Detroit rapper about his rapping style and his work on the movie Southpaw.
The host has also interviewed Talib Kweli, among other musicians.
