Several months ago we reported that the casting was wrapping on the roles in the new Lee Daniels’ Richard Pryor biopic. At that time we heard that Mike Epps had landed the part of Pryor, while Oprah Winfrey was cast to play his Grandmother.
Then we heard a rumor that actress Anne Heche was set to play Pryor’s wife in the film. Up until recently we heard nothing else about the film.
Over the weekend several outlets have been reporting that actress Kate Hudson has joined the cast, as she is set for the role of Jennifer Lee Pryor, who married Pryor twice; the first time for three days, and the second time for almost four years up until his death.
Reports have quoted Daniels as saying, “I’ll start pre-production in January and shoot at the end of March, beginning of April, in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco. It’s been so great because I haven’t really worked on a film in over a year. I’m anxious to be getting behind the camera.”
With this statement and new pictures of Epps along with Hudson, we think that this casting news is probably correct.
Pryor died in 2005, aged 65, after suffering a heart attack. He spent years battling multiple sclerosis prior to his death.
