Posted Jan 30, 2015

Jamie FoxxJamie Foxx and Michelle Monaghan have signed on to star in Sleepless Night, a Vertigo Entertainment action thriller that will be directed by Baran Bo Odar. Open Road Films will finance production and take worldwide distribution rights under their recently announced partnership with FilmNation.

The pic is a “reinvention” of the 2011 French film Nuit Blanche, directed by Frédéric Jardin. The new take centers on a seemingly corrupt Las Vegas cop (Foxx). When gangsters kidnap his son as ransom for a shipment of cocaine he stole, Downs races to save his son’s life without getting caught by Internal Affairs and before the mobsters discover that he’s actually lost the goods. Monaghan plays an Internal Affairs agent investigating him who ultimately has to decide which side of the law he’s on.

Andrea Berloff, who wrote World Trade Center and the upcoming Straight Outta Compton, penned the adaptation.

Frances McDormand, Logan Lerman, Brit Marling, Christian Slater and Jonathan Pryce have been added to the cast of the Glenn Close-starrer The Wife. Björn Runge is directing the script by Jane Anderson, who penned the McDormand-starrer Olive Kitteridge which just won the actress a SAG Award. It’s based on Meg Wolitzer’s 2003 novel of the same name and the plan is to begin shooting in fall 2015 in Stockholm and New York.

Close stars as a flawlessly gracious wife who gladly gave up her writing ambitions to play the role of helpmate to her husband (Pryce). On the eve of his Nobel Prize for Literature, she decides to leave him. A startling secret at the heart of Joan and Joe’s relationship is laid bare in a poignant, funny and emotional journey about the conflicts of love and ambition.

CAA and WME Global are co-repping the U.S sale and Embankment will commence international at the EFM.

German art house distributor SquareOne Entertainment has acquired from The Weinstein Company all German-speaking European rights excluding Switzerland to Simon Curtis’ Woman In Gold, the historical drama starring Helen Mirren, Ryan Reynolds and Daniel Brühl. It premieres in Berlin next month as a Berlinale Special Gala.
