Sony Pictures’ Annie, the long-in-development remake/re-imagining of the Broadway musical, which stars Quvenzhané Wallis as the title character, is set for a December 19, 2014 premiere.
Joining Ms Wallis in the film’s cast are Jamie Foxx, Cameron Diaz, Bobby Cannavale, Adewale Akinnuoye Agbaje, Rose Byrne, Dorian Missick and Tracie Thoms.
In terms of key roles, Foxx plays the Daddy Warbucks character from the original, but will instead be called Will Stacks.
In the interview below with Katie Couric, Foxx shares a little more info on the character he plays, stating that he’s a cellular phone mogul, who’s campaigning to be Mayor, and that the real-life personality he’s mirroring in coming up with his character’s persona, is none other than Sean “Diddy” Combs.
As of our last post on the project, the film was filming in New York City, under Will Gluck’s direction, based on a script he revised, originally written by Emma Thompson and Aline Brosh McKenna.
Will & Jada Smith’s Overbrook Entertainment, in partnership with Jay-Z (who’ll be working on the soundtrack) are producing.
