Jamie Foxx and Denzel Washington are among the standout actors recognized in the 2025 Golden Globe nominations, revealed on Monday (Dec. 9) by presenters Mindy Kaling and Morris Chestnut. The nominations span 27 categories, celebrating excellence in film and television.
Foxx has been nominated for Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on Television for his upcoming Netflix comedy special, Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was… The special, debuting Dec. 10, blends humor with heartfelt reflections on his April 2023 medical emergency, which left him hospitalized and sparked widespread speculation.
Washington, meanwhile, earned a nomination for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture for his powerful turn in Gladiator II. This marks Washington’s 11th Golden Globe nod, solidifying his status as the most-nominated Black performer in the award’s history.
Other notable nominees include Cynthia Erivo (Wicked) and Zendaya (Challengers), who will compete for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. Colman Domingo (Sing Sing) and Zoe Saldaña (Emilia Pérez) have also been recognized, with Domingo vying for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama and Saldaña for Best Supporting Actress in Any Motion Picture.
Television nominations feature Ayo Edebiri (The Bear) and Quinta Brunson (Abbott Elementary) for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy. Donald Glover is in the running for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Series – Drama for his role in Mr. and Mrs. Smith.
Additionally, Viola Davis will be honored with the prestigious Cecil B. DeMille Award. “Viola Davis is a luminary whose profound talent has continuously shifted the lens through which we see and understand film,” stated Helen Hoehne, President of the Golden Globes. “Her courage in portraying complex, powerful characters has broken barriers and paved new paths, making her an emblem of excellence.”
The 2025 Golden Globe Awards will air live on Sunday, Jan. 5, at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET on CBS, with streaming available on Paramount+ in the U.S.
