Is Tracy Morgan Done With Stand Up?

Posted Oct 1, 2014

Tracy Morgan 2It sounds like the injuries that Tracy Morgan sustained during a June 7 bus crash   may affect his career for the rest of his life.

Morgan’s lawyer, Benedict Morelli, spoke out Tuesday night to give a health update on the 45-year-old Saturday Night Live alum, who is still recovering from critical injuries including broken ribs, a broken nose and a broken leg. When asked if Morgan will ever perform again, Morelli told Page Six  , “The jury’s still out. The doctors don’t know the answer. I don’t know the answer.”

The tragic crash occurred several months ago when Morgan’s tour bus collided with a Walmart truck on the New Jersey Turnpike. The crash left Morgan’s pal James McNair dead.

Morelli said that Morgan, along with three other survivors of the fatal crash, are suffering from some cognitive disabilities. “When you have a traumatic brain injury, you remember certain aspects. This isn’t unusual—it wipes away certain thoughts,” he said.

Morgan’s attorney also responded to Walmart’s court filing this week, which faulted Morgan for the injuries   he sustained when Walmart truck drive Kevin Roper crashed into their bus. Walmart says that passengers’ injuries “were caused, in whole or in part, by plaintiffs’ failure to properly wear an appropriate available seatbelt restraint device. By failing to exercise ordinary care in making use of available seatbelts, upon information and belief, plaintiffs acted unreasonably and in disregard of plaintiffs’ own best interests.”

“These people are despicable,” Morelli said of Walmart. “They knew that they changed these people’s lives forever and killed somebody. They’re good blame shifters. I guess that’s how they make $783 billion a year, shifting the blame.”

Morgan also personally responded to Walmart’s legal filing   this week. “After I heard what Walmart said in court I felt I had to speak out,” the 30 Rock star, who is suing Walmart for negligence  , told E! News in a statement Tuesday. “I can’t believe Walmart is blaming me for an accident that they caused. My friends and I were doing nothing wrong. I want to thank my fans for sticking with me during this difficult time. I love you all. I’m fighting hard every day to get back.”
