Golden State Warriors’ Win Brings 16 Million Viewers- A Record For TNT!

Posted Jun 1, 2016

Basketball was immune to Memorial Day’s typical ratings fatigue. The Golden State Warriors’ Game 7 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder fetched an unprecedented 15.9 million viewers for TNT on Monday night.

Nielsen Fast Nationals make the nearly 16-million viewer haul the most-watched telecast in TNT history and the most-watched NBA game to ever air on cable. The showdown peaked with almost 20 million viewers watching between 11:15 and 11:30 p.m. ET.

It’s a rather stunning end for a seven-game series that averaged 9.9 million viewers and sets ABC up for a likely impressive NBA Finals showdown between the Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Online, TNT cites 1 million unique viewers tuning into its TV Everywhere platform and ratings that have outdelivered all late-night talk show programming by all measures.

Game 1 of the Finals is set to tip off on Thursday, and should the series go the distance, Game 7 is set for June 19.
