Taking on the Foxy role has been a passion for Good. She also will serve as a producer on the series, executive produced by her husband, producer Franklin via his Franklin Entertainment, Krantz through his Flame Ventures, showrunners Spellman and Watkins as well as Good’s managers at Untitled Entertainment, Jason Weinberg & Evan Hainey. Drew Comins of Flame will serve as co-executive producer.
The 1974 movie, written and directed by Jack Hill, followed Foxy Brown (Grier) as she sought revenge for the murder of her boyfriend by a drug syndicate. The film, which was a box-office success, has had a lasting legacy, influencing a number of movies over the past four decades, including the Pam Greer starrer Jackie Brown; the Urban Legend franchise; Austin Power in Goldmember, which featured a Foxxy Cleopatra character played by Beyonce; and the Undercover Brother comedy. The original film was distributed by American International Pictures whose library is now owned by MGM subsidiary Orion Pictures Corporation, leading to MGM TV’s role as producer on the series. On the film side, Franklin and Krantz are also partnering on the adaptation of another classic MGM property, Cooley High.
Good, who has been a sought-after TV series leading lady, toplined NBC drama Deception and Fox’s Minority Report and recurred on CBS’ Code Black.She will next be seen headlining the Lifetime movie Love By the 10th Date, which premieres on January 28th, and also will star in the feature Deuces. Earlier this year, Good published her first book, bestseller The Wait: A Powerful Practice for Finding the Love of Your Life and the Life You Love, which she co-wrote with Franklin. Good, whose credits also feature credits include comedy Think Like a Man Too and the coming-of-age tale A Girl Like Grace, which she also co-produced, is repped by Gersh, Untitled Entertainment, and Gregg Gellman.
This is Krantz’s second high-profile, female-driven drama sale over the past month. At NBC, he is executive producing a legal drama starring and executive produced by Gotham’s Morena Baccarin, with Ken Sanzel writing and exec producing for ITV Studios America.
Krantz, Franklin, Spellman and Watkins are all repped by CAA. Spellman is also repped by Industry Entertainment. Franklin is also repped by attorney John Meigs at Hansen Jacobsen. Krantz is also repped at Echo Lake and by Bianca Levin and Harold Brown.
