As we all know, Marvel Entertainment is on a tear in the film industry with their films, from Iron Man Three that was just released, to the filmings of Spider Man 2, Captain America 2, and the upcoming sequel to Thor titled Thor: The Dark World.
With all of this news swirling around the internet, many sites have leaked from their sources stating Marvel is hard at work on the next three films that they are planning; Ant Man– which is scheduled to be released in 2014, Doctor Strange which has no release date yet and the very highly anticipated Black Panther.
Idris Elba
No new news has leaked about Ant Man or Doctor Strange (except that both has finally moved into pre-production stages) but for the last couple of years news had leaked that Marvel was ramping Black Panther up and nothing has materialized. We heard that several actors were in the running for the lead, starting with Idris Elba. Word was that Elba had a secret meeting with Marvel several years ago for a three picture deal, and we thought (like many folks) that that might be the signing of him landing in the Black Panther role. But with Elba starring in Thor and the sequel, we quickly realized that Elba was in talks about that film (even though we did hear some conversations about him starring in a Blade reboot- but that is another conversation for another day).
Tyrese Gibson
Another person who had several conversations with Marvel was actor Tyrese Gibson, and we even reported about a secret meeting that he had with several execs from Marvel as we were in attendance in the same restaurant as Tyrese, when he met with Avi Arad– The COO of Marvel Entertainment. But that was a couple of years ago and nothing has materialized from that.
Morris Chestnut
Finally, the other big name we heard for a couple of months was actor Morris Chestnut, who recently tweeted “It’s time to get familiar with the Black Panther character!” There was even talks that he would be in the upcoming Avengers 2 as the Black Panther and that a film about his character would be upcoming. Well, earlier today we got a chance to communicate with Chestnut and he officially denied that he is in the film.
So, now the question comes back around as to who will play Black Panther?
