Cinelou Films has decided on a release date for its drama “Mr. Church,” starring Eddie Murphy and Britt Robertson.

“Mr. Church,” Murphy’s first film to hit theaters since the 2012 film “A Thousand Words,” will be released on September 16.

It tells the story of a lifelong friendship that develops between a young girl and the cook hired to help care for her dying mother, portrayed by Natascha McElhone.

The film is produced by Cinelou and EMA, and Bruce Beresford directs. It was produced by Cinelou toppers Courtney Solomon and Mark Canton along with Lee Nelson and David Buelow; executive producers are Shenghua Entertainment’s Yu Wei Chung, in addition to Dennis L. Pelino and Fredy Bush.

“Mr. Church” premiered in April at the Tribeca Film Festival.

“We are proud to be a part of Eddie Murphy’s return to the big screen, particularly because he’s playing a role so different from his previous work,” Solomon said.

Cinelou is handling domestic distribution and Warner Bros. will handle international. The film will also be available for streaming exclusively on Amazon Prime Video in the U.S. following the home entertainment release.

Two-year-old Cinelou Films’ first movie was “Cake,” starring Jennifer Aniston. The company has recently completed “Burn Your Maps,” starring Vera Farmiga and Jacob Tremblay; “The Yellow Birds,” starring  Alden Ehrenreich and Tye Sheridan; and an untitled remake of “The Comedian,” starring Robert De Niro and Leslie Mann.
