Dwayne Johnson Lands In New ‘Baywatch’ Comedy Film With Zac Efron!

Posted Aug 11, 2015

Zac Efron is in talks to join Dwayne Johnson in Paramount’s “Baywatch” comedy, which is based on the 1990s TV show.

Seth Gordon will direct the movie. Johnson will also produce the pic along with his partner Dany Garcia through their Seven Bucks Productions banner. Montecito Pictures and Beau Flynn are producing as well, while Michael Berk, Douglas Schwartz and Greg Bonnan will exec produce.

Damian Shannon and Mark Swift wrote the latest draft of the script.

Although plot details are currently vague, sources close to the project reveal that the studio is taking a comedic route with the film. Production is expected to start in early 2016.

Efron has become a box office draw over the last few years, with 2014’s “Neighbors” hauling in $150.2 million in the U.S. ($268.2 million worldwide).

Efron just wrapped production on the Chernin comedy “Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates” alongside Adam Devine and Anna Kendrick. He can be seen next in the Warner Bros. DJ pic “We Are Your Friends.”

He is repped by CAA and Alchemy Entertainment.
