Disney is moving forward with an untitled film revolving around its “Jungle Cruise” theme park attraction with Dwayne Johnson attached to star.
“Crazy Stupid Love” helmers John Requa and Glenn Ficarra are on board to pen the script. John Davis and John Fox of Davis Entertainment will produce. Kristin Burr is overseeing for Disney.
The studio has been trying to develop a film based around the safari ride for sometime, with Tom Hanks and Tim Allen each attached to star at some point. Plot details are unknown at this time, other than the fact that it will be a period piece.
Following the success of “The Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise, Disney has pushed hard to find ways to use its various brand-name theme park attractions as a basis for feature films. A “Haunted Mansion” pic is currently in development with Ryan Gosling attached to star; an earlier “Haunted Mansion” film with Eddie Murphy did not succeed at the box office.
Johnson is coming off a huge summer with his film “San Andreas” and new TV series “Ballers” both faring well. Johnson recently wrapped production on “Central Intelligence,” which bows next summer, and he’s expected to shoot the comedy “Baywatch” at the start of 2016.
He is repped by WME, the Garcia Companies and Gang Tyre. The news was first reported by the Hollywood Reporter.
