On This Day In Comedy… In 1960 Adele Givens Was Born!

On this day in comedy on July 1, 1960 Comedienne, Actress, Adele Givens (Willadele Givens) was born!

Givens got started in show business as a teenager.   She played a nurse on an episode of Good Times in 1977.    She got into stand-up comedy and in 1989 she became the Grand Prize Winner of the “Royal Crown Comedy Contest” and was the runner up to the “Miller Lite Comedy Search” the following year (losing out to Bernie Mac).   She performed on Def Comedy Jam and Comedy Central Presents.  

Around the turn of the Century Givens, Mo’Nique, Sommore and Miss Laura Hayes toured as the Original Queens of Comedy and filmed the concert film   Both were huge successes.     She has appeared in the films, Beauty Shop and The Players Club.   Givens has guest-starred on The Hughleys, Moesha, The Parkers, Martin, Tracey Takes on . . . and The Steve Harvey Show.   Adele Givens tours as a national headliner.
