Dame Dash Claims He Could Have Saved Aaliyah

Posted Apr 19, 2016

The music world was shaken when Aaliyah died in a plane crash in August 2001. The singer was flying to Miami after shooting a music video in the Bahamas.

In a recent interview with The Real, Dame Dash, who was dating the superstar at the time of her death, says that he could have saved Aaliyah.

“There’s no chance that if I was there, we would’ve been on the plane,” he says. “It would’ve never happened that way. Aaliyah and I was in Miami. She was shooting a video in Miami and I was in Miami with State Property. She was gonna do a record with Freeway.”

The Rap mogul explains how Hype Williams wanted to move the video shoot to the Bahamas and he had to go back to New York to take care of his children. As he parted ways with Aaliyah, they both felt uneasy about her trip.

“She was like, ‘Yo, I don’t like that plane,'” Dash says. “I was like, ‘Don’t get on it.’ She was like, ‘I gotta do it.’ It was a complicated situation, but she had to go do that video. If I was there, I woulda made sure that that jet that was supposed to be for her, the G4, she woulda been on that. I wouldn’t have got on that plane. So it probably would’ve been different, but everything happens for a reason. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. You just gotta deal with the cards that life deals you.”
