Comedy’s 2017 Grammy Awards Nominations Announced- And There Is A MAJOR Lack Of Color!

Posted Dec 8, 2016

A couple of days ago the 59th Grammy Nominations were announced and there was, as expected, a list of heavy hitters for 2017. To no one’s surprise, the list included David Cross’ first album in five years, Amy Schumer’s latest effort via HBO special turned album, and Patton Oswalt, Tig Notaro and Margaret Cho’s albums.

What was very UNEXPECTED was the lack of comedians who weren’t mentioned for a nomination. Check out this list of comedians who produced a comedy special/album and were overlooked;

Alonzo Bodden, W. Kamau Bell, Deon Cole, Martin Lawrence, Cedric The Entertainer, Kevin Hart, Wanda Sykes, Michael Che, Aires Spears, Tony Roberts, Quincy Jones, Dwayne Perkins and Loyiso Gola– just to name a few. We’re sure there are a couple of more out there but these names are GLARING as they are accomplished in the industry and as we stated, not even mentioned.

Anyway, here is the list of comedians who were nominated;

BEST COMEDY ALBUM
… America … Great … — David Cross
American Myth — Margaret Cho
Boyish Girl Interrupted — Tig Notaro
Live at the Apollo — Amy Schumer
Talking For Clapping — Patton Oswalt

In addition to Best Comedy Album, Schumer also received a nomination for “Best Spoken Word Album” with her audio book.

BEST SPOKEN WORD ALBUM (includes poetry, audio books & storytelling):
The Girl With the Lower Back Tattoo — Amy Schumer

The 59th Annual Grammy Awards take place February 12th, 2017 on CBS.

Thanks to comedian Deon Cole who brought this to our attention.
