It’s getting better and better for comedian JB Smoove in Hollywood! Not only was he recently tapped for the gig to return as the Host for the new season of Russell Simmon’s Stand Up At The El Ray but he also just landed a new acting gig in Sacha Baron Cohen’s new film The Dictator.
We hear the film is currently shooting in New York, and our friends over at EURWEB and the Hollywood Reporter have the story;
*Actor-comedian J.B. Smoove has joined the cast of Paramount’s Sacha Baron Cohen comedy The Dictator, with production currently underway in New York, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Smoove, who is returning to HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm, later this month, will play the role of “Usher” in the film, though little is known about the character. Details of the film, which is being directed by Borat helmer Larry Charles, are being kept under wraps.
The Dictator is the story of despot who “risked his life to ensure that democracy would never come to the country he so lovingly oppressed,” according to a Paramount press release. The film is said to be inspired by the novel Zabibah and The King by Saddam Hussein.
Smoove, who is launching an original comedy website in late July called TheRuckus.com, is also set to appear in Fox’s forthcoming We Bought a Zoo and The Sitter.
Megan Fox and John C. Reilly will cameo in “The Dictator,” which also features Anna Faris, Ben Kingsley and Jason Mantzoukas.
