Chris Spencer Jeru Tilman(Hollywood June 2013) Chinese Theaters LLC along with comedy producers Jeru Tillman and Chris Spencer; creator of the hit BET comedy, Real Husband’s Of Hollywood, have partnered to create the new comedy club, Inside Jokes, inside the historic TCL Chinese 6 Theaters at the Hollywood and Highland Center. The club will launch Friday, July 5 with Russell Simmons’ Presents All Def Digital Comedy (A-D-D), a weekly night showcasing the best young up and coming comedians from around the country.  Highlights from each week will be exhibited on Simmons’ New Youtube Channel A-D-D.  Saturday and Sunday, July 6  & 7 its Inside Jokes All Star Weekend, hosted by international comedy superstar Russell Peters and featuring Iliza Schlesinger; winner of NBC’s Last Comic Standing, Neal Brennan; Co-Creator of The Chappelle Show, Harland Williams; star of Half Baked and Bill Burr; of HBO’s One Night Stand fame. The 240-seat theater is coupled with the all-new, adjacent chic Dragon Lounge, which is designed to complete the pre and post show Hollywood nightlife experience. All areas of the club will be served by Solo Tapas, which will cater the joint venue.

“Our aim is to create Hollywood’s ultimate comedy and entertainment experience,” said the venue’s co-founder Jeru Tillman who enjoyed 8 years of success at the World Famous Comedy Store.  Tillman began his association with the Theater in 2011, when he secured Kobe Bryant as the first athlete to be a recipient of the Chinese Theater’s legendary hand and footprint ceremony.

Tillman and Spencer say their location and the schedule of shows they will create for Inside Jokes gives them an upper hand with other entertainment venues in the area. “We have a full weekend of comedy programming from the very start and where else in Hollywood can you get $2 for parking for 4 hours?” asked Spencer.

Elie Samaha, a principal with Chinese Theaters LLC said, “The kind of venue Jeru and Chris are creating with Inside Jokes is the kind of innovative idea that extends our historic brand to another level of entertainment. Hollywood has a great tradition in comedy and opening a comedy club here is a brilliant compliment to that history.”

Since 1927, The TCL Chinese Theatre has been the home of the most important, star powered red carpet movie premieres and special events, where Hollywood’s biggest and brightest talents have come to watch their movies. The most famous movie theatre on the globe is world-renowned for its unique forecourt of the stars, featuring cement hand and footprints of major movie stars, from Marilyn Monroe to Brad Pitt, and numerous stars from all eras of Hollywood. In addition to being a major international tourist destination, TCL Chinese Theatre, and its six adjacent cinemas, the Chinese 6, are everyday working movie theatres, hosting millions of moviegoers year round. The TCL Chinese Theatre was declared a historic-cultural landmark in 1968, and there has always been a restoration program in process to maintain the theatre’s beauty. With its current, on-going facelift and new name and new added amenities and event spaces, guided by a new and vigorous ownership team, the TCL Chinese Theatre and its famed “hands and footprints in cement” forecourt will continue to be the preferred location for tourist visits and the entertainment industry’s most prestigious red carpet premieres for years to come. In April IMAX(R) agreed to add a theatre to the iconic TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, through an extensive transformation of the landmark site. The addition brings the theatre into the 21(st) Century and gives Hollywood its first IMAX(R) theatre, providing fans with a movie-going experience that will rival any in southern California. Once complete, this will be IMAX’s largest auditorium in the world in terms of seating capacity and its third-largest commercial theatre screen in North America.
