Sometimes we just HATE sitting on things because the story comes out regardless. Case in point; Chris Rock landed a sketch comedy show that we heard about a couple of weeks ago, and we were told to keep it under our hat for a little while. Well, we were scooped again by Deadline, as they stated that Rock was able to close a deal for a new sketch comedy show with Comedy Central that would have Rock in the producer chair, and a star vehicle for up and coming comedian Deshawn Raw. For those of you not in the know, Raw is a comic who has been creating a name for himself in the comedic rap battles that he was starring in along with Rock.
Here is the story;
EXCLUSIVE: Comedy Central has given a pilot order to D-Raw, a sketch comedy show executive produced by Chris Rock and starring young comedian Deshawn Raw who described himself as, “Just a new comedian trying to make it out the hood with the team. So we don’t end up statistics.” The show is comprised of sketches featuring Deshawn and his diverse group of friends based on their personal experiences as they make fun of themselves and their lives in Rancho Cucamonga. The sketches include rap battles and the guys’ take on all things pop culture. The latter should be familiar to fans of DeShawn Raw who became a YouTube star with his Rap Battle videos. The first video in the series (below) has garnered 13.5 million viewers. Rap Battle Pt. 4 featuring Chris Rock (second video), has amassed 2.9 million. Rock and DeShawn Raw executive produce D-Raw with DeShawn Raw’s creative partner JP Minot, who will direct the pilot. In addition to D-Raw, Rock also executive produces FX’s upcoming weekly late-night series Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell. The series starring comedian W. Kamau Bell premieres on Aug. 9th
