Chadwick Boseman Lands The Lead Role In New 'James Brown' Biopic!

Posted Aug 26, 2013

Remember several months ago we told you about the James Brown biopic that was coming? Have you noticed that several websites kept reporting that it was coming and then nothing? Well, all of that seems to be over now as Variety has just dropped the bomb, stating that the biopic will be moving forward- and without Eddie Murphy cast in the lead role.

According to Variety, it seems that the star of 42, Chadwick Boseman has landed the lead role.

Check out their article from Variety below;

Universal and Imagine Entertainment look ready to the long-gestating James Brown biopic up and running as the greenlight has been given and “42″ star Chadwick Boseman has been tapped to play the iconic rock musician.

“The Help” director Tate Taylor is helming the pic with Imagine’s Brian Grazer producing along with Mick Jagger and Erica Huggins.

Pic follows the famous musician’s rise from extreme poverty to eventually becoming one of the most recognizable names in music.

Grazer has tried making a film about Brown for over a decade with the wheels really getting into motion when Taylor boarded the project. Even after Taylor joined the studio still needed to work out a budget but during that time the studio began meeting with actors to play Brown.

Several actors put their name in the mix but in recent weeks sources say Boseman began separating himself from the others even though an offer could not be made at the time.

Boseman can be seen next in Summits NFL pic “Draft Day” starring Kevin Costner.

He is repped by Greene and Associates and Management 360.
